Alfred G.
Cordray
Nov 26, 1931 — Jan 15, 2018
Alfred G. Cordray, also known as 'Al' and Cowboy Al,' 86 years young, passed away at Cooper Medical Center, Camden NJ, Monday evening January 15, 2018. Al suffered and succumbed to a massive stroke while at home in Burleigh, NJ.
Al was born November 26, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA as the youngest of three children to George and Selena Cordray. As a young teenager, Al worked for Roy Rogers, "King of Cowboys," during live rodeo appearances in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. This is where he developed a life-long adoration of horses and earned his nickname, Cowboy Al. After honorably serving his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, Al met the love of his life, Harriet, and together they raised their four children: Diane, Lorraine, George, and Barbara.
After 45 years, Al retired as a master dye caster from the textile industry, giving him time to commit himself to pursue his favorite hobbies: deep sea fishing and big game hunting. Al practiced his hunting and fishing skills in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Al is survived by his daughters Diane Griffin of Burleigh NJ; Lorraine Diaz of Odessa FL; and Barbara Cordray of Philadelphia PA. His grandchildren include Ian Daniel Cordray of Philadelphia; Dawn Marie Diaz of Richmond VA; and Michelle Lynn Chang of Bristow VA. His great grandchildren are Carmen Sierra Diaz, Sofia Lorraine Chang, and Daniel Bernardo Chang. Al is predeceased by his mother Selena, father George, wife Harriet, son George, and grandson Daniel.
Services will be convened Saturday January 20th at Petner Funeral Home, 6421 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia PA. Visitation and viewing begins at 9:00 am and a Catholic service is scheduled for 10:30 am.
Al is scheduled for interment at Magnolia Cemetery, Philadelphia PA joining Harriett in eternity. Lunch immediately follows burial at the Ashburner Inn, 8400 Torresdale Ave., Philadelphia PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Al's name to the Fisher House Foundation.
