ALICE T SCHMANEK
DECEMBER 20, 1930 - OCTOBER 14, 2025
Alice T. Schmanek, age 94, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025. Born on December 20, 1930, in Philadelphia, Alice lived a long and remarkable life defined by strength, perseverance, and an unshakable love for her family. Alice is survived by her son Michael (Stacey) Schmanek; 13 grandchildren—most notably her grandson Kevin (Amy) Schmanek and granddaughter Chelsee Schmanek; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert "Gil" Schmanek Sr.; sons Gilbert "Franny" (Sue) Schmanek Jr., Patrick Schmanek, Thomas Schmanek, and Dennis (Joanne) Schmanek; as well as several siblings and many dear loved ones who went before her.
One of ten children in a large and lively household, Alice learned early the value of hard work, faith, and family. Life wasn't always easy, but she met every challenge with grit, stubbornness, and a sharp sense of humor. Tough as nails and quick-witted to the end, Alice was the kind of woman who told it like it was—and somehow made you laugh while doing it. Her stories reflected a time of simplicity, sacrifice, and resilience, and she carried those lessons with pride throughout her life.
Alice devoted herself to caring for her family and anyone else who needed a helping hand, a hot meal, or a warm shower. She had a big heart, an open door, and an uncanny ability to see people for who they were—and love them anyway. If she was teasing you, it meant you were one of her favorites. And if she offered you a beer, you knew you were in good company.
She found joy in the small things—especially in cheering for her beloved Dallas Cowboys. Proud to be the family outcast on game day, Alice never missed a chance to gloat when her boys pulled off a win. She was one of a kind: tough, funny, loyal, and full of life right up to the end .
Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Gathering Tuesday October 21, 2025 9:15 AM to 11:00 AM at THE EDWARD J PETNER FUNERAL HOME (family owned and operated). Christian Burial Service 11: followed by her burial at Greenmount Cemetery .
