Obituary

Dr. Angelo M. DiBello, MD 89, passed away peacefully on the evening of March 28, 2017 after complications from abdominal surgery at Nazareth Hospital.

Born August 9,1927, in Philadelphia, the son of Nicholas and Mabel DiBello, he was the oldest of 5 children. He worked from the time he was 12 years old. The "good doctor" was raised in the Holmesburg section of the city and attended Frankford High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950, with the honor of graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated medical school from Hahnemann University in 1954. Upon graduation, he began his residency at Nazareth Hospital and opened his own family practice in Holmesburg. Dr. DiBello always intended to practice in the area where he was born and raised. He chose to take care of his family, friends and the people in his community that were important to him. He fulfilled his dream for 63 years, providing impeccable service to his patients.

Behind every great man is an even greater woman and in 1954 he married his childhood sweetheart, Matilda Falcione. Matilda is a loving wife and completely devoted to her husband. Their three children, Nicholas DiBello (Jeanne), Donna Petroni (Louis), and Angela Holt (Thomas) reside in the greater Northeast living with their families in the same neighborhood as the Doctor and Matilda. Added to his loving family are 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. While he wasn't caring for his patients, Doctor spent all of his free time playing golf with his friends and pinochle with his grandchildren. He was an avid Notre Dame fan. Nothing made him happier than his hobbies, family gatherings, and summers in Ocean City, N.J. with his entire family.

At the age of 89, Dr. DiBello was still making house calls to his patient's homes, as well as regular rounds at Nazareth Hospital. He just recently retired from the practice of medicine at the end of 2016. His family practice grew to be the largest in Northeast Philadelphia. His patients were like extended family to him and became his life long friends. Because of his extreme dedication, he considered it a norm to work seven days a week caring for them.

His passion for medicine was only exceeded by the love of his country. From 1944 to 1945, Dr. DiBello served honorably in World War II. He is a member of the Union League Club of Philadelphia, a 65 year member of the Torresdale Frankford Country Club, the American Legion and the Italian Sons and Daughters of Italy. The doctor received numerous awards throughout his 63 year medical career. The most important to him was the Dr. Skromak award from the medical staff at Nazareth hospital for his long dedication and service.

With his warm smile and intelligent piercing blue eyes, Dr. DiBello's legacy is one of great caregiving to his thousands of patients and the great love he gave to his family and friends. His untimely passing leaves an incomprehensible vacuum for his beloved family, surviving patients and the Holmesburg community.

Gone but never forgotten;
Forever making house calls in heaven, he will truly be missed.
