DEBORAH J. KANE
"DEBBIE"
NOVEMBER 28, 1956 - MAY 6, 2025
Deborah J. Kane, lovingly known as Debbie, passed away peacefully at home in Philadelphia on May 6, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on November 28, 1956, in Philadelphia, Debbie brought light and laughter to everyone she met. She was the beloved wife of Jerry Gilchrist, with whom she shared 38 years of love, partnership, and devotion.
She was a devoted mother to Amiel Westfield Jr. and his wife Bevin, and to Elizabeth Westfield. Debbie was also an adoring grandmother to Faylinn, Amiel III, Reagan, and Nolan, who brought her endless pride and joy.
Debbie was the cherished daughter of the late William and Betty Kane, and the beloved sister of Chris "Kano" Kane, the late Jack Kane, and the late Stephen Kane. She was also a loving sister-in-law to the late Karen Kane. Debbie had a special bond with her nieces Valerie, Jessica, and Becky, the daughters of Chris and Karen, and she loved them deeply.
Debbie spent over 25 years with Dechert LLP, where she began her career in 1997 as a legal secretary and was later promoted to trademark administrator for the intellectual property practice. In 2022, she was inducted into the firm's Quarter Century Club—an honor that reflected not just her longevity, but her loyalty and exceptional service. Her colleagues remember her as a sweet, friendly, and resilient presence—someone who remained optimistic and dedicated even in the face of illness. She continued to work with strength and grace until just days before her passing.
Outside of work, Debbie lived a full and vibrant life. She had a million friends and treasured the time she spent with them—especially summers at the Wildwood condo, Malibu, where laughter and memories were always in abundance. She delighted in Paint Nights, enjoyed playing Megatouch games, and found endless joy in creating lasting memories with her grandchildren. A proud and enthusiastic Eagles fan, Debbie loved leading the Eagles chant with her pom poms, rallying everyone around her with infectious spirit and hometown pride. Her warmth, humor, and unwavering love touched everyone lucky enough to know her.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on May 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Edward J Petner Funeral Home, 6421 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19135.
