Edward J. "Buddy"

Philadelphia
EDWARD J. PETNER JR
"BUDDY"
MAY 24, 1943 - SEPTEMBER 15, 2026
Petner
Edward J. Jr."Buddy" age 83, was a lifetime resident of the Mayfair section of the city. He was a 1961 graduate of Oratory Preparatory School in Summit NJ. After graduating High School he attended Niagra University, after one year there he decided he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a funeral director. He left Niagra and enrolled in Eckels College of Mortuary Science. It was there that he earned his degree and began his long career as a Funeral Director serving many family and friends over decades.
His summers growing up were spent in Wildwood NJ. It was there that he met the love of his life"Margie" at the Starlight Ballroom in the summer of 1960. They enjoyed waterskiing all day and dancing all night. They married in 1964 at St. William's Church. They welcomed their first child Eddie on November 24, 1965, but it wasn't until January 10, 1970 when they welcomed their Beautiful, Amazing, Hilarious and Captivating daughter Megan that they knew their family was complete.
After purchasing the Funeral Home in 1972 Buddy and Margie worked side by side in the Family business. Once Buddy's Children joined the family business he was able to take his summers off and enjoy his summer home in Wildwood Crest, NJ with Margie. He celebrated his summers off by purchasing his most favorite toy...His APACHE speed boat. If you knew Buddy you knew he loved going fast! In fact if you ever had the pleasure of joining him on his boat you definitely experienced an "Oh Shit!" moment as he dangled a camel out of his mouth and hit the throttle as you hung on for dear life. When not speeding up and down the beach from Wildwood Crest to Atlantic City you could find him spending time with family and friends.
It is only fitting that Buddy passed away peacefully on September 15 down the shore. It is a comfort to know that he is finally reunited with the love of his life, his beloved wife Margie.
He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Marge Petner and his granddaughter Angel Kennedy.
He was the loving father of Edward J. III "Eddie" and Kate Petner, Megan and Michael Kennedy. Proud Pop-Pop of Michael, Tori, Megan(Gavin) and Maggie. Dear brother of Margie Harkins and Chuck. Dear Uncle of Joey, Shawn, Shannan, Tara, Brett and Patrick.
