Obituary

Helen M. Fitzpatrick LeCompte
Helen died peacefully on September 21, 2018. Helen was born in Philadelphia in 1923 to
Marguerite (Lyons) and John Fitzpatrick. She was a life-long resident of Philadelphia growing
up in South Philadelphia, Oxford Circle, Pennypack and Holmesburg. Helen was a proud
graduate of Little Flower High School. In 1942 Helen married Henry Loy LeCompte also from
the Oxford Circle in Chattanooga, TN. Henry was then commissioned to Europe and served in
WWII in the US Army's 80th Division under General George Patton.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Henry, her brother John J. Fitzpatrick, SJ, daughter
Jeanne, (William Bradley, deceased) son Jack (Donna) and grandson Marty. She is survived by
her son, Henry "Hank" (Brenda), daughter Rosemary (Dan McElhatton), Paul, Francis Xavier
(Deb), Michael (Michelle) and Joseph. Helen was affectionally known as "GG" to her 18
grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Helen and her husband Loy loved the Jersey shore and frequented it as much as possible often
accompanied by her brother Jack Fitzpatrick. One of the joys in her life was "going out" to see
the band "LeCompt" often dancing with some of Michael's followers. Helen also became a
hockey fan through the efforts of her son Joe who took her to many of the Hershey Bears'
games. Over the last several years Joe took great care as the primary caregiver for his M om.
Helen was employed for many years with the City of Philadelphia as a Payroll Coordinator for
the Police Department. Helen volunteered at Mother Katharine Drexel Shrine formerly in
Bensalem, PA. She was a member of St. Dominic's Parish.
After she retired Helen spent winters in Rancho Mirage, California at her son J ack's home.
Helen was joyous and will be missed by all. She loved music, singing, meeting new people and
interacting with family and friends. The Christmas Eve gathering on Rowland Ave expanded
yearly and all were welcome – there was always room, enough food and beverages. The next
time you sing and dance remember Helen. Memorial Gathering Friday September 28, 9:00am to 11:30am at THE EDWARD J. PETNER FUNERAL HOME9family owned and operated). Christian Burial Service 11:30am Interment private.
