MARCELLA CELAURO JOHNSTON

SEPTEMBER 5, 1945 - OCTOBER 4, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcella C. Johnston (nee Celauro), age 80, on October 4, 2025. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on September 5, 1945, Marcella was the daughter of Leonard and Stella Celauro, both of whom predeceased her.

Marcella's life was filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was the beloved wife of George Johnston for 53 years, sharing a lifetime of cherished memories and experiences. Together, they raised two children, Michelle Doughty (Bert) and Andrew Johnston (Serena), who were the pride and joy of her life. Marcella was also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren—William, McKenzie, Allyssa, Madison, Ashley, Carly, and Stella—and two great-grandchildren, William and Eleanor, each of whom brought her immense happiness. Marcella had three brothers, Robert who survives her and the late Leonard Jr. and Michael.  She is fondly remembered with great affection by her many cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family.

Marcella was a longtime resident of Northeast Philadelphia, having moved there from Jersey City at a young age. She attended St. Timothy's Grade School and graduated from St. Hubert's High School, where she formed lasting friendships and was known for her kind heart and strong spirit.

For the last 18 years of her life, Marcella enjoyed living at Four Seasons at Weatherby in Woolwich Township, New Jersey, where she cherished the community and the friendships she made along the way. She had a warm, welcoming nature, always making others feel like family, and her home was one where love and laughter filled the air.

Marcella's passing leaves a profound emptiness, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family and Friends are invited to join in celebrating Marcella's life and remembering her many contributions to those around her on Thursday October 16, 2025 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at St. Timothy's Church 3001 Levick St. Phila.
