Obituary

Nicholas M. DiBello Jr. was born on March 29, 1930 to the late Nicholas Sr. and Mabel DiBello. He was preceded in death by his brothers Angelo M.D. and Joseph, and his sisters Amelia and Dolores. Nick was raised in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia where he attended Brown Elementary School and Frankford High School. In his youth, he had a paper route, dug graves at St. Dominic's, and learned to be a mechanic while working at his father's service station. He loved his country and served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He met the love of his life Catherine "Joan" Christian in 1955 through his lifelong friends Jack and Rita Knight. They soon fell in love and married on June 2, 1956. Nick was an entrepreneur. Through his life, he owned many businesses, including a shoe store, express lube, service station, and car washes. He had continued success up through his retirement at age 85. Nick and Joan were married for over 60 years and have seven children, Linda Quigley (Francis), Karen Steffney (Robert), Loretta Rochford (late Joseph), Angelo (Cheryl), Stephen (Valerie), Nicole Gray (Gerald), and Michelle Kephart (Scott), 17 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. It was in his family that Nick found his most joy and pride. He was also known for his devout Catholic faith, and was a charitable man contributing to both his church of numerous charities in his lifetime. Summer vacations to Ocean City were some of the fondest memories for Nick, and most recently, winter trips to Florida. He enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Torresdale Frankford Country Club, where he was affectionately known as "Uncle Nick". He had a wonderful sense of humor. His stories and jokes would bring smiles and laughter. He loved to play pinochle and cribbage and passed along his expertise to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed football and baseball, rooting for his favorite teams, Notre Dame and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and making his own wine. In his later years, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of publishing a book, Consumatum Est (It is finished). While his life here on Earth is finished, he leaves a legacy of faith, family, and service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nick's memory to https://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1322973
