RICHARD ALLEN SHEAFFER

OCTOBER 14, 1952 - JANUARY 3, 2025

Richard Allen Sheaffer, 72, of Huntingdon Valley (formerly of Lansdale, PA) passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2025.  Rich was the son of the late Darcy and Beverly Sheaffer.  Rich had one brother, Darcy, who passed away in 2019.  He was also the long-time life partner of Karen Lee Shalkham who passed away in 2020. Rich is survived by his sister in law, Linda Sheaffer  (of The Villages, FL) and his Aunt Madeline Baldwin of Rockford, IL.  Rich also leaves behind many close friends and coworkers that will miss him immensely.   Brody and JoJo, his beloved four legged companions, will also miss all the love, affection, and treats Rich spoiled them with over the years.

After graduating from Temple University in 1974, Rich went on to earn his MBA in Finance in 1980. He began a long and very successful career working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.  He started in 1974 and retired after 40 years of service in January of 2015. Rich began as an Internal Auditor and held various managerial positions at the bank over the years.  He was vice chair of the Federal Reserve System's Conference of General Auditors and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. He also taught at the American Institute of Banking and was a Certified Fraud Examiner. At the time of his retirement, Rich was Senior Vice President and General Auditor for the FRB.

Rich loved to enjoy life and loved to travel.  He loved being at the beach.  In his younger years he always rented shore homes in the summer in Beach Haven.  Later in life he moved to Avalon and always rented a beautiful home usually with a beachfront view.  His travels with Karen took them to so many beautiful destinations such as an African Safari, Egypt, Paris (a favorite), Italy, Amsterdam, Germany, Peru, Galapagos Islands, Monte Carlo, French Riveria, and London to name a few. A few nights of gambling was not out of the question!  Also, National Parks were always high on their list since Karen made Rich be on the lookout for bears and moose! The Alaskan Cruise was also perfect for wildlife.  If you knew Rich well, you know his favorite warm destination was JAMAICA.  It only seems appropriate that Rich spent his last week on this earth in Jamaica relaxing and having good food, good wine, and with good company. He died at a place he truly loved!

Rich was not all business.  He also had a fun side to him where he loved to experience good restaurants and fine wine.  We had many many fun dinners in our "Birthday Club" and Rich was always in charge of the wine selections – always some type of Pinot Noir.  When Karen hosted her many parties at her home, she was the resident Chef preparing delicious meals while Rich as the resident bartender and was in charge of the pitchers of Cosmopolitans. Yes, I said PITCHERS with an "S."  Rich was also very generous with his financial advice with his friends and many consulted with him before making any major financial decisions. Rich's financial advice was the best advice! He always made time for you, always returned phone calls, and always was a true friend. He will be missed by many! Rest in peace, my friend!
