Obituary

William "Bill" James Morley
Sept. 8, 1932 - July 30, 2026

William "Bill" James Morley passed away at the age of 93 on July 30, 2026.  He is survived by his three loving children Ellen Shackleton (Ken), Tom and Kathleen (Adam) and grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Rachael. For 55 years he was married to Rose (nee Riotto), his beloved wife who proceeded him in death in 2020.

Bill was born in South Philadelphia to Thomas and Nellie Morley, the youngest of three brothers with his siblings, Thomas "Cozy" and James "Hoagie",  proceeding him in death.

Bill graduated from South Catholic High School in 1951 and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Army in 1953, where he was trained as a cook and was honorably discharged in 1953. He later began working on the Phildelphia waterfront – a career of which he was incredibly proud that lasted until he retired at age 90.

He had an enduring love of his family and Philadelphia and had a particularly strong affection for the Phillies, the Eagles and the 76ers.  He played basketball and golf, sang and loved telling jokes and was a very good cook. He enjoyed spending time in North Wildwood with family and friends.

Bill was dedicated to hard work and was an incredibly generous and good person. He will be dearly missed by family and friends and was truly one of a kind.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday August 5, 2026 10:00AM to 11:00AM at The Edward J Petner Funeral Home. Christian Burial Service 11:30 followed by his interment at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
